Chapter 16

My head was pounding, and the light shining in my face made me feel murderous. I swatted my arms out in front of myself groaning, trying to hide from the source. “Here Sweetheart.” A voice whispered, as something cool pressed against my lips. Water, I realized taking a large sip, and spilling some of it down my chest. I tried turning my head away, but rough hands held my face in place as the glass was brought to my lips once again.

“I'm fine.” I mumbled. “Just tired.”

“You're drunk.” The voice said, with laughter. Cade's voice.

Opening my eyes, I reached my hand up to cup his cheek. We were laying in a bed, his bed, and I wasn't wearing my dress anymore I realized. Removing my hand, I started to sit up. The room spun, as I regained my bearings and glanced at the clock. Three AM? I had drank so much that I missed the entire dinner? Bringing my face to my palms I sighed. “What happened?”

“You and Mark were going shot for shot and managed to empty an entire bottle of Jack Daniels.” He smirked.

I tipped my head up, peering into his eyes and I could feel the pools starting to form behind my own. I remembered drinking with Mark, but what I wanted to know, what I needed to know was what happened between him and Rachel. He was here with me now, bare chested and beautiful but would he stay that way? He was going to marry this woman, and if she had his son? My stomach began to roll at the thought, and I bolted for the bathroom.

Cade was fast on my heels, holding my hair, and rubbing my back as I retched. I was far too emotional to feel any kind of embarrassment So I let the tears come, and I let myself feel whatever It was I needed to feel. When I had finally stopped crying, Cade pulled me up into his arms placing a cool cloth on my forehead. Together we walked back to his bedroom, where he removed my undergarments and climbed into bed beside me his front to my back, he tucked us both in beneath the covers.

The next time I woke, I vaguely recalled what had transpired in the earlier morning hours. Cade's arms were wrapped around me, his chin resting on my shoulder and I just lost it all over again. I knew it was crazy to act before I'd even gotten a chance to speak with him, but everything inside of me was screaming that last night was our last together.

“Hey.” He cooed softly, kissing my shoulder. “Why are you crying Sweetheart?”

“The baby? Is he yours?” I whispered, before I lost my nerve.

Turning me in his arms, he pressed his nose against mine. Laying skin to skin, and heart to heart made it even harder to keep my tears at bay. He pulled me closer, and without saying a single word I knew.

“What happens now?” I asked softly.
